yvrHacks 2024 took place on Sunday, September 29th at the Vancouver Independent School for Science and Technology

Message from Kevin:

Over the last few years, I've seen opportunities for high schoolers in every field: debate tournaments, business case competitions, competitive math tournaments. For me, yvrHacks was our first step towards creating those same opportunities for students interested in computer science and technology. It was about starting that community where we can all keep meeting new people, learning from each other, and building cool stuff together. I think we all succeeded in seizing this opportunity and truly making use of our time together.

I'm so proud to have been able to work along so many amazing executives, sponsors and mentors to host Vancouver's biggest youth hackathon. And I'm so grateful to everyone one of you who attended and truly showed your passion for learning, meeting new people, and creating cool stuff. All of us at the British Columbia Youth Developer Collective truly loved the experience and we're really excited to continue to keep hosting cool events, creating fun opportunities and meeting and learning amongst all of you. About the hackathon

Welcome to British Columbia's biggest high school hackathon! yvrHacks is a beginner-friendly hackathon for high school students in Vancouver–and is the perfect place to collaborate, learn, and build something cool, with prizes for the top submissions! Get ready for 8 hours of coding, workshops, free meals, many prizes, and lots of fun!

The hackathon will take place at the Vancouver Independent School for Science and Technology (VISST) at 1490 W Broadway, Vancouver! This hackathon is only open to students who registered on our website prior to the registration deadline.

   Does my project need to relate to the theme? No! The theme is optional and will only be used for selecting Theme Prize winners.
   


2. Can I use Al tools while making my project? You can use Al tools to help with development or learn new tech. However, Al-written code must not be a significant part of your final project. Organizers and judges will determine specifics on a case-by- case basis.


3. What are the eligibility requirements for Best Beginner Hack? yvrHacks must be the first hackathon for each of your team members, and all members must have indicated that they are a beginner on the registration form.
