Background on University of Waterloo Sustainability Office

Waterloo’s Environment Sustainability Strategy has set a target to be zero waste by 2035 (90% diversion rate). To reach this target, all who work, live and study on campus must be a part of the solution. Currently, Waterloo has a variety of waste diversion programs such as the Eco Container programming, four stream waste sorting stations, Campus Housing Move Out, 4RepairKW, Campus Compost, electronics recycling, thrift store, and Free Store just to name a few. A survey recently conducted indicated that students think waste is not being sorted correctly because of lack of education. Student feedback also indicated that the education must be engaging to make an impact.
