Introduction
The focus of this competition is to identify Nigerian youths who will become future leaders in the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Data Science (DS) with special applications in Medicine. AI and DS are leading the world of computing today and they offer lots of tools with applications in all fields of life. The developed world is making a great progress in the adoption of AI and DS tools, and the results are amazing. The speed of adoption is very slow in Africa because of many things, one of which is the lack of human resources in these fields. Fortunately, Africa, and in particular Nigeria, is blessed with boys and girls with great potential to innovate and impact the continent but these talents are hiding somewhere. Our mission is to identify these talents and help them to activate their potential. This competition will create a platform for boys and girls to compete for a prize award as they demonstrate and learn more about the application of AI and DS to medicine. These young people will be mentored by us to develop a career in AI and DS. This competition is largely for students of Lagos State University, Redeemer’s University and The University of Ibadan. The choice of these universities is based on the fact that they are members of the DATICAN project. The competition will be in phases. The first phase will take place at Lagos State University and the second will be held in Redeemer University. The final phase will be at the University of Ibadan. The first phase is scheduled for June 2024 and the dates of the other phases will be announced later.
