The EdXR team invites you to take up the challenge of designing and developing Education eXtended Reality (XR) ‘hacks’/ solutions. Using a transdisciplinary approach, you will be required to ideate and develop a solution around the problem area ‘engaging with education experiences, code, and analysis solutions via XR technological solutions’. To maximize creativity, the EdXR Hackathon is an open brief, which calls for ‘hacker’ teams to consider the problem and then use EdXR team’s technology to support your solution. The education-led solution should be novel, backed by insightful, albeit useful, content.
The challenge revolves around design, creation, coding, and analysis. We provide freedom and flexibility regarding the approach you want to follow, but your submission should fit in the general theme of the challenge. You can find extensive information on the four different themes in the “Rules” section. You do not have to adhere to a single theme - you could work on multiple fronts at the same time.
Do you think your team could rise to this challenge?
Believable & Relatable: Users must feel comfortable but intrigued to use your solution
Engaging and Immersive: Consider what is the hook for the users to want to engage and immerse themselves within the solution. Could you consider gamification - competition is a strong hook, but it should also be managed carefully.
Interactivity: How will you gain the interest of the users to want to interact with the solution? How will you understand how much the learners have gained from using the solution? How will you present any successes or “wins” for the user?
Orientation and Discovery: How will you facilitate the users to explore your solution? Will you use 3D objects, attentionals or sounds? Consider multi-modal sensory engagement, and how the senses can impact on engagement and immersion.
Communication words and sound: Consider the language or sounds you could use to attract the users, and inspire them to complete tasks. Consider instructional and direct phrasing, be clear, concise in your approach to communicating with the user.
