Overview

I-Hack 2024 is a unique opportunity for BYU-Idaho students to engage in a fun and creative experience that combines learning, networking, and problem-solving challenges.

Participants will get to work with like-minded individuals, attend workshops and guest speaker events to learn new skills, and network with professionals and companies.

The hackathon offers a platform for participants to showcase their creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving skills while having fun and potentially discovering new career opportunities.

Overall, the BYU-I Hackathon promises to be an exciting event that fosters collaboration, innovation, and learning in a dynamic and supportive environment.

Theme and Problem Set:

Tech and Lifestyles: Bridging the Gap

We have four categories that student groups can enter:



  • Integrity and Might


    • Description: Business ethics, quality, production, and honest advertising build trust.


    • Goal: Our goal is to ensure integrity in our business's reputation, culture, and products. We strive to bridge the gap between ethics, quality, production, and advertising to build customer value and loyalty.


    • Narrative:Integrity is vital to a business's reputation, culture, and products. The effort required, from ethics to quality, production, and advertising, is essential to building customer value and loyalty is a chasm that must be crossed.




  • Intelligence and Mind


    • Description: Transform data into truthful information amidst noise and misinformation.


    • Goal: Our goal is to convert data into accurate information and effectively communicate it through various mediums, overcoming noise and misinformation.


    • Narrative: The journey of converting data into intelligent, truthful information and sharing it through learning, teaching, and practice—via words, images, videos, or other mediums—requires navigating a landscape filled with noise, misinformation, and social and psychological challenges.




  • Social and Heart


    • Description: We connect, build, and serve to enhance lives and communities.


    • Goal: Our goal is to foster communication, relationships, and service to better our lives, communities, and the world.


    • Narrative: As social beings, we thrive on communication, building relationships with family and friends, and serving others (love ones and strangers), aiming to improve our lives, communities, the world and the future.




  •  Innovation and Strength


    • Description: Creativity and technology drive us to build and innovate solutions.


    • Goal: Our goal is to harness creativity, technology, and resources to construct and innovate extraordinary solutions.


    • Narrative: Our creativity and curiosity drive us to take action and interact with innovative ideas, advanced technology, and global resources to build, improve, and create remarkable solutions.



Getting Started

This is an opportunity to learn your capabilities, new skills, working teams, and have a fun time.


  1. First you need to find or organize a team of 2-4 people, 4 max.

  2. Next you need to pick a category as a team.

  3. Then brainstorm a problem in that category.

  4. Finally begin to start a design of the solution to the problem.

You should not begin coding the solution in until 5:PM on Oct 18th, and will finish the solution by Oct 19th at 5:PM. You may gather concept of operations, requirements, designs, tools, and training before the 18th.

Things you can work on between now and the beginning of the hackathon:



  • Solution Documents: Proposal, Requirements (SRS), Design (SDD), QA/Testing


  • Project Management: GitHub Projects, Work breakdown schedule


  • Training: Learning about languages, technologies, and principles.


  • CASE/Software Tools: Preparing your computers by downloading required software.
